FAQ: “Is That Really Enough Time for a Session?”

Most of you know I am a former math teacher. I love numbers and data! Lucky for me, both play a big part in my business. One of my most frequently asked questions is how long my sessions are. Because my full sessions are defined by image count and not time, it’s not at all surprising potential clients want to know how long to expect to be at a session, especially if their group includes small children. People are also often curious if ten minutes is enough time to capture all the photos and poses they’d like during a mini session. The answer to both questions is an overwhelming YES. How do I know and how am I so confident? The answer is simple…it’s all in the numbers.

Let’s first take a look at a family session example.

This was a group of 6, 2 parents and 4 children. From start to finish the session lasted 30 minutes which is a pretty typical family session length. This family specifically asked for more candid shots and less traditionally posed images. This family’s final gallery had 68 images. The gallery includes:

  • 13 images of the entire family in 4 poses

  • 6 images of the two female children in 2 poses

  • 4 images of the two male children in 2 poses

  • 14 images of all four children in 4 poses

  • 12 images of mom and the female children in 3 poses

  • 4 images of mom and the male children in 1 pose

  • 6 images of dad and the female children in 1 pose

  • 3 images of dad and the male children in 1 pose

  • 6 images of mom and dad in 2 poses

This session’s package included 8 free digital images, giving this family over 8 TIMES the number of images to choose from.

Next, let’s consider a mini session.

The family pictured here was a group of 4, 2 parents and 2 children. The mini session was 10 minutes in length. This family’s final gallery has 20 images. The gallery includes:

  • 6 images of the entire family in 5 poses

  • 3 images of just the children in 2 poses

  • 3 images of both children with each parent in a single pose

  • 8 images of each child individually in 3 poses

This particular mini session package included 4 free digital images, giving this family 5 TIMES the number of images to choose from…all comfortably accomplished in 10 minutes.

If you’re still with me and not completely overwhelmed by all of the numbers, I’m hoping you’ll take away from this post that we can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Years of practice has made me very skilled in making small tweaks or changes to poses or groupings that create a completely different photo from the one prior. In addition, if you ask my clients, they’ll tell you I make those transitions smooth and easy for everyone. If concerns about time made you hesitant about scheduling a session, relinquish those worries to me. I’ve got you covered with plenty of time to capture all of the images you’re looking for! I hope you’ll consider scheduling your session with me today!
