Should I Hire a Second Shooter for my Wedding?

Calling all couples planning their weddings…this blog post is for you! More and more often, I am asked if couples should hire a second shooter to capture their wedding day. As a Lehigh Valley wedding photographer, I offer a second shooter as an add-on option for any wedding package booked through me. The answers to the following two questions can help you decide if you need a second photographer:

Where are you and your partner getting ready?

If you and your partner are getting ready at different venues that require the photographer to drive between them, consider adding a second shooter. This allows one photographer to capture getting ready photos at each venue without focusing solely on one person or cutting short the time with each to allow for travel. If you’re getting ready at the same venue but in different rooms, a single photographer can often suffice. Advanced planning ensures that no key moments are missed.

How many people are there in your bridal party?

The size of your bridal party plays a significant role in deciding whether you need a second photographer. Couples with bridal parties of 6 or more people per side (14+ people total including the couple) might benefit from a second photographer. This allows for ample photos of each member of the bridal party individually and as a group. This consideration extends to children in bridal parties as well. For smaller bridal parties, a single photographer is often enough. More people mean more time needed for photos, so a second photographer might be worth considering.

Every wedding day is unique, and I design photography packages to meet your specific needs. If you’re unsure about hiring a second photographer, these questions can help guide your decision.
