Five Facts About Your Photographer
Hi, friend! Have we met? I’m EK, Elizabeth Kate. We may have worked together before or maybe you’re checking out my blog for the first time, but either way, welcome! I’m thrilled you’re here taking a few minutes to read this blog post.
My fabulous social media manager tells me people like to know about me. “Me?,” I asked her, “what do people want to know about me?” As it turns out, clients like to know a little bit about the girl behind the lens. So today I thought I’d share 5 fun facts with you about me!
I’m an introvert.
This is the perfect thing to begin with. I wouldn’t have ever thought to write a blog post about myself or include photos of me in my social media feed because I can’t imagine a world where people would want to read about me! I’m not a fan of the spotlight and generally prefer to be on the side of the camera that doesn’t garner attention. I may make it look easy, but it takes a lot of courage for me to meet new clients with such enthusiasm or to interact so animatedly with your children because inside I’m a pretty quiet person. I’m much more comfortable at home curled up with a cup of coffee, the dogs, and a good book…or an episode of Selling Sunset.
Math was my favorite subject to teach, but I struggled with it as a kid.
Many of you know I was an elementary school teacher for 13 years before pursuing my photography career full-time. However, did you know that I taught second, fourth, and fifth grades? My favorite of the three was fifth grade because I got to teach several sections of math rather than all of the core subjects. Ironically, math was my least favorite subject growing up (even though I came from a family of accountants and my mother was a math major…) and it was a big struggle for me. I remember so many nights of tears at the kitchen table arguing that mom’s way wasn’t the way the teacher taught it. It wasn’t until I took two foundational math classes in college that I understood how our number system works and, once I did, I couldn’t get enough of it. I love number reasoning and solving problems in different ways. Now my children get to experience the “joy” of mom’s way sometimes being different than the teacher’s way. Who knows? Maybe one day one of them will grow up to love numbers, too!
When I was younger I wanted to be a professional singer when I grew up.
So this one probably seems a little contradictory given my first fact but, when I was a kid I wanted to pursue a career as a professional singer. I took voice lessons from middle school through college and participated in every music group and musical production I could squeeze into my schedule in high school. I may have taken a different route professionally after college but you can still find me singing in the shower, the car, the kitchen, pretty much anywhere now. The little music note tattoo on my wrist is a nod to my love of music. It may not be my everyday job as I’d once hoped, but it’s always with me.
Country music is my favorite…I’m so obsessed I named my dog Nash after Nashville, TN.
I lived in Maryland for six years after graduating from college (yes, that “301” area code is from my Maryland days, but I’m local to the Lehigh Valley now). While living there, I fell in love with country music! My idea of a great summer is seeing how many country concerts I can fit in and of course, no outfit is complete without daisy dukes and boots. When my children ask me if I’ve ever met a celebrity, I proudly answer I’ve met Chase Rice, Chris Janson, and Adam Doleac because, to me, country music artists are the biggest celebrities there are. If you ever have an extra ticket for a country concert and need a friend to go along with, give me a call. I’m there in a heartbeat and will likely belt out the songs right next to you. :)
When I’m not behind the camera I love being active!
In the last few years, I’ve developed a love for being active and outdoors (not to be confused with a love of camping…camping is a no-go in my book). I live near a walking and biking trail and you can often find me there in the warmer months walking my dogs and listening to a podcast. When I’m not on the trail I love all things Peloton. From lifting to spin to stretching and meditation, I’m a huge Peloton fan! Being active helps me find calm and peace in other parts of my busy life so I try to make time for it every day.
That’s all for this blog post, folks! You’d laugh to know it took me several days to come up with five fun facts about myself to share with you, but I did it! See you behind the camera soon!
