Showing Off Your Personality in Senior Photos
Hi, friends!
It’s October which means we are deep in two things in the Lehigh Valley…fall foliage and senior photo season! Senior photos are more than just a tradition—they're a way to capture who you are at this milestone moment in your life. It’s your chance to showcase your personality, interests, and style in a way that you’ll look back on with pride for years to come. Whether you’re bold and adventurous, quiet and introspective, or a little bit of everything, here are three essential tips to help you bring out your unique personality in your senior photos.
Choose Locations that Reflect Your Passions
The setting of your senior photos can tell a lot about who you are. Think about the places that mean something to you. Are you an outdoor enthusiast? Consider having your session in a scenic park, a favorite hiking trail, or by the water. If you’re an urban soul, an industrial backdrop with bold architecture might be your style. Love books? A quaint bookstore or a library can be the perfect spot. By selecting a location that resonates with your interests and hobbies, your photos will feel more authentic and personal. Not sure what location might complement you best? No problem! I provide all of my clients with a comprehensive location guide complete with images taken at each location to consider for their session. However, if you have an idea of your own about a location that speaks to you, we can go there, too!
Incorporate Props that Highlight Your Interests
Props can be a powerful way to bring your personality into your photos. Think about what makes you, you. Are you passionate about music? Bring along your instrument—whether it’s a guitar, violin, or even a set of drumsticks. An athlete? Incorporate your gear, like a basketball, soccer ball, or letterman jacket. If you’re an artist, maybe it’s your sketchbook or a palette of paint. Are you an animal lover? Four-legged friends are always welcome at sessions! The key is to select items that are meaningful to you, so your photos tell your story in a visual and compelling way. Though I always come prepared with a plethora of posing ideas and directions, incorporating your chosen props takes your images to the next level!
Wear Outfits that Reflect Your Personal Style
Your clothing choices play a significant role in how your personality shines through in your photos. Don’t feel pressured to dress in a way that’s not true to you. If you love vibrant colors and patterns, don’t shy away from wearing them. If your style is more laid-back and casual, embrace that look. The goal is to feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing, as this will naturally come across in your photos.
Consider bringing a few different outfits to capture the various sides of your personality—whether that’s formal, casual, or something uniquely you. Ladies, I suggest bringing both a pants and dress option if you want to do a change in the middle of your session. This will allow us to achieve different poses depending on your attire. Gentleman, I suggest bringing a mix of casual and more formal attire to reflect both your personality and the special occasion of graduation. However, just like props, your outfit should also be personalized to your tastes. Incorporating wardrobe pieces that are uniquely you also makes your images pop!
Your senior photos are a celebration of who you are at this pivotal moment in your life. By choosing locations that resonate with you, incorporating props that tell your story, and wearing outfits that reflect your style, you’ll ensure that your personality shines through in every shot. Remember, this session is all about you—so have fun, be yourself, and let your true colors show!
